Open Position: Director of Traditional Music

Position: Full-time. Competitive salary negotiable based on skills and experience.

Job Summary: To encourage and lead the people of the congregation in the expression of their praise and commitment to God through music and choir presentations at Traditional Worship Services.

Accountability: Reports directly to the Director of Music & Worship and is accountable to Head of Staff and the Session through the Worship & Music Ministry.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

The following is not meant to be an exclusive list of potential responsibilities, and duties and assignments may be changed as deemed appropriate by Church leadership.

  • Responsibility for planning and directing music, in coordination with Director of Music & Worship, pertaining to Traditional Worship Services, including special services such as Good Friday and Christmas Eve.

  • Share responsibility with Director of Music & Worship for overseeing budget and expenses for music programming for those services, in consultation with Worship and Music Ministry.

  • Arrange for maintenance/tuning of the organ and pianos.

  • Direct all activities of the Chancel Choir including rehearsals, Sunday morning worship, and special services. Maintain relationships with participants.

  • Direct all activities of the Handbell Ensembles.

  • Coordinate and supervise Children’s Choirs, Choral Scholar program, Commonwealth Brass, other artists, employees and volunteers as appropriate for the music for the subject worship services.

  • Attend staff and worship planning meetings.

  • Attend monthly Worship and Music Ministry meeting.

  • Select, recommend, and purchase music supplies and equipment as authorized by Director of Music & Worship and the Worship & Music Ministry.

  • Act as a resource staff person to the Worship & Music Ministry regarding matters within the responsibility of the position.

  • Assist and provide direction for RRPC’s annual Christmas Concert, Carols & Keyboards.

  • Play or facilitate others playing the organ/piano for funerals/weddings.

Experience and Qualifications: Substantial education or equivalent experience in Church Music. Minimum of 5 years of experience directing choirs and music programming for worship services. Professional competency in organ or piano (organ strongly preferred.)

Compensation: Salary is negotiable based on experience and determined annually by the Session and Personnel Ministry. Premiums for individual health insurance and death & disability benefits paid by RRPC. Additional insurance/benefit participation, including participation in Retirement Savings Plan, may be obtained through Board of Pensions under its terms at employee’s cost. Four weeks annual vacation and continuing education allowance.
